Task 2A
For unit 38, recoding audio and
moving image
For this
task we had to create an opening to a movie, this consisted of getting into a
small group of three in college hours and outside of college hours of shooting.
Alongside
with this came the concept of making our own soundtrack or using music that
would be suitable for the film we were making, the soundtrack we used for our
film was from an original R&B song. The reason we chose to use an original
soundtrack for our film because the genre of our film was more of a Hood/ghetto
type of style, meaning the music we chose fit exactly into our genre. We had to
make sure we were downloading licensed music for copyright protection , as the
soundtrack we used was somebody else’s song.
Not only did
we use soundtrack we used original sound, and voice recordings meaning we had
to book equipment to use in order for our shooting process to go smoothly.
The first
thing me and my group did was we started with a voice over, for our first
scene. This consisted of finding an environment that would enable us to record
the recording without the busy hours of college. Booking the recorder allowed us to proceed
with the recording, once this was achieved we used recorder in a class room. Monitoring the recorder was important before
we could proceed with the recording; we had to be aware of the meters and
volume units, making sure the recorder was measured in the correct decibles, in
order for the voice recording to sound correct and in tune.
However the
recording didn’t go to plan, due to inaccurate measurements and we underwent
another solution because the recorder didn’t record, we then changed the
recording process by booking a microphone and a camera to record the voice over.
The microphone was a much easier process for us because, positioning the
microphone directly into the actors direction allowing her voice to be heard
more clearly. The saving process with the camera and microphone was much easier
as well as we directly saved the audio from the memory card straight to editing
computer. And saved the media content into our folder.
When it came
to using the microphone as part of equipment we had to position the microphone
according to the environment we were in, for example when recording outside. We
had to position the microphone above the characters head, in order for the characters
voice to be heard and the background noise outside to be blocked out. With the
use of headphones in order for us to hear and ensure the sounding was correct.
When it came
to documentation and storage of our project, we first had to create a folder
with our groups name on the editing computer, where we would store all our
footage and sound recording. This was essential because the folder would allow
our project to be easier to find, bearing in mind the editing computer had
several other footages from other groups stored onto the computer.
